Bill Mahoney, the CEO of SCRA, announced today he will step down from the helm of the agency after 11 years, according to a news release.

Mahoney plans “to pursue opportunities in the private sector,” agency spokeswoman Micki MacNaughton said in an email.

“Working to grow South Carolina’s knowledge economy has been a highlight of my career,” Mahoney said in the news release. “It has been an honor to have led and served the dedicated clients, partners and associates of SCRA who are so dramatically advancing South Carolina’s technology ecosystem.”

No interim CEO has been announced. SCRA’s leadership team will work with the board’s executive committee to find a replacement, MacNaughton said.

“I would like to thank Bill for his significant contributions to, and leadership of, SCRA and the state’s technology sector during the last 11 years,” board chairman William Blume said in the release. “SCRA is positioned to continue fulfilling its mission to advance science and technology-based economic development across the state, through the promotion of South Carolina university research and technologies and ongoing support for technology-based companies.”

SCRA, founded in 1983, commercializes intellectual property and invests in early stage companies.
