A Southwest Airlines flight was diverted to Charleston International Airport Sunday night after a baby was born mid-flight, airline spokeswoman Lisa Tiller said in an email.

Medical personnel on the plane assisted with the delivery. Medical technicians met the flight upon arrival and transported the parents and the baby to an area hospital, Tiller said, adding that the mother and baby were stable when technicians arrived.

The airline did not disclose any details about the birth, any passenger details or the status of the family.

Flight 556 was bound for Orlando, Fla., from Philadelphia. The flight arrived in Orlando about one hour later than scheduled.
