Despite only marginal sales growth in the United States during the month of June, the BMW Group recorded its best June for sales globally.

For the first six months of the year, the company saw a 5% increase year-over-year, which also set a record.

In June, BMW Group sales totaled 232,620, a 2.1% increase year-over-year. The company reported 1,220,819 vehicles sold in the first six months of 2017.

The strongest performers for the BMW brand globally included the Spartanburg-produced X5, which had a 10.6% year-over-year increase in sales in June. The X1 model had the largest year-over-year increase at 45.2% while sales of the 1 Series grew 6.5% and the 7 Series increased 26.9%. Brand sales topped 1,038,030 in the first six months of 2017 — an increase of 5.2% year-over-year.

Ian Robertson, member of the BMW AG board of management, said another high point was the addition of the ninth electric vehicle in the BMW Group — the Mini Cooper S E Countryman ALL4. In the first six months of the year, sales of electric vehicles were more than 42,000, an increase of 79.8%.

Mini sales were up 3% globally while Rolls-Royce sales dipped 6.5% in the first half of 2017.

BMW brand sales were up just 0.4% in the United States in June but brand sales are down 2.8% year-over-year in the first six months of 2017. Group sales in Europe were up 2.2% and 18.4% in Asia.
