Columbia-based Companion Data Services has been offered a new, 10-year Strategic Partners Acquisition Readiness Contract from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The contract is an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract used to modernize business processes and support systems and their operations. Companion Data is one of 81 businesses selected for task orders under the contract. They will provide technology, strategy and program management to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

“This award signifies the continued strength of our relationship with CMS,” Lola Jordan, president of Companion Data, said in a statement. “We are thrilled to bring best practices, deep health care knowledge and cost-effective practices to help CMS meet its strategic goal of supporting the health insurance marketplace.”

In addition, Companion Data will provide strategic, technical and program management advice, guidance and support services to the Medicare and Medicaid agency for the federal health care exchange and information technology systems when a task order is awarded to Companion Data.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is the largest purchaser of health care in the United States, accounting for more than one-third of the dollars spent on health care in the U.S. economy.
