Samsung Home Appliances will be participating in Monday’s job fair at the Center for Advanced Technical Studies in Chapin that’s been organized to help workers who lost their jobs following shutdown of the V.C. Summer Nuclear Station new reactor project.
In June, Samsung announced plans to invest $380 million and launch a home appliance manufacturing operation in Newberry County’s former Caterpillar plant. The facility, which Samsung expects to have up and running early next year, will employ 954 workers by 2020.
The job fair is being sponsored by the coalition, Employ SC, which is a group of public and private organizations brought together to help workers who lost their jobs July 31 when SCE&G and Santee Cooper shutdown the new reactor project at V.C. Summer Nuclear Station at Jenkinsville.
In addition to Monday’s event, Samsung will conduct job fairs across the region through the month.
