A fabricated steel galvanizer plans to open a new facility in Cherokee County.
Pennsylvania-based Steel Creek Galvanizing Company LLC will build an 82,000-square-foot building at 576 Tribal Road in Blacksburg. The announcement includes a $14.1 million capital investment and the creation of 72 jobs, according to the S.C. Department of Commerce.
The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits for the project.
“The assistance and cooperation of state, county and local officials have been outstanding, and we look forward to beginning construction soon,” said Jim Mack, president of Steel Creek Galvanizing Company LLC, in a news release.
The operation in Cherokee County will be a hot-dip process designed to protect steel against rust and other corrosion. The new facility will be a zero-emission operation, according to the company.
“This investment and job creation continue to demonstrate Cherokee County's desire to continue to diversify our local industry,” said Tim Spencer, Cherokee County Council chairman.
Hiring for the new positions is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2018.
