The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina has awarded its 2017 Collaboration for Ministry Initiative grants, which are given “to engage, support, and sustain the ministries of Catholic Women Religious in South Carolina.” In the Lowcountry, a grant was given to Our Lady of Mercy Outreach Services and Neighborhood House, an organization that works to assist people in the community through education, wellness and outreach services.
The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission and the Parklands Foundation, a nonprofit component of the parks department, have created a campaign called Swim For It to raise funds for drowning prevention, including swimming instruction, as well as construction and maintenance of pools on Johns Island and in McClellanville, Hollywood and Ravenel.
The Parklands Foundation plans to set up donation sites at water parks this summer, including Whirlin’ Waters Adventure Waterpark at Wannamaker County Park in North Charleston, Splash Zone at James Island County Park and Splash Island at Palmetto Islands County Park in Mount Pleasant.
