United Way recognizes Fant as Humanitarian of the Year

United Way of the Midlands recognized Paul V. Fant Sr. as the 2015 Humanitarian of the Year Award recipient at the organization’s annual dinner Thursday night at the University of South Carolina Alumni Center.

Fant is president of Fant Consulting LLC and serves as senior executive consultant for Dominion Carolina Gas Transmission. Previously, he was president and COO of Carolina Gas Transmission and senior vice president at SCANA. Carolina Gas was acquired last year by Dominion Transmission Inc.

Fant currently serves on the board Palmetto Health and the Columbia Museum of Art. He also serves on the Community Advisory Board of BB&T, the Strategic Advisory Group of SCRA and the Community Advisory Council for the president of the University of South Carolina.

With the United Way, Fant served as chairman from 2006 to 2007, campaign chairman from 2004 to 2005, and he has been a member of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society of the United Way since 2000. He is also a past chairman of the boards of Palmetto Health Foundation, Columbia Urban League and Claflin University.

Fant is a member of the board for the American Missions Association for African Missions affiliated with the International Churches of Christ and is a member of the Columbia Church of Christ.

A native of Charlotte, Fant graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering in 1975.

The Humanitarian of the Year Award is given to an individual who clearly demonstrates extraordinary leadership in philanthropic and human services.
