Median price of S.C. homes more than $185,000 in December

The median price of homes sold in South Carolina during December was up nearly 6% from December 2015 to $185,403, according to a monthly report from the S.C. Association of Realtors.

The Hilton Head Island area had the highest median price for the month at $298,995, while Southern Midlands recorded the lowest median price at $87,450, the report said.

There were 5,847 new listings for homes in the state in December, which is 31 more than in December 2015. Closed sales also increased year-over-year to 6,134 in December, according to the report.

Inventory of homes for sale declined 7.9% to 31,421 last month, leaving a 4.8-month supply of inventory, the report said.

Homes stayed on the market an average of 99 days across the state, which is down from 108 in December 2015. They sold the fastest in the Charleston Trident area, which recorded an average of 60 days on the market, and the slowest in the Southern Midlands, which saw an average of 193 days, the report said.
