Hospitality association to host 60-employer job fair
The Lowcountry Hospitality Association will host a job fair on Feb. 26 with representatives from more than 60 employers from the hotel and food and beverage industries. Job openings for all skill levels will be available.
ECPI University hosting Palmetto State Job Fair in March
The job fair, expected to include more than 100 employers, will be held March 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. It is free and open to the public.
Richland Library hosting 2020 census hiring events
Pay rates for temporary, part-time census jobs range from $14 to $15.50 per hour in Richland County. The first of 12 informational events at Richland Library branches will be held at the Assembly Street main branch on Tuesday.
Unemployment rate falls to 2.3% in December
South Carolina continued its record streak of low unemployment, with the number of people working in the state climbing to more than 2.3 million in December 2019. Lexington County is tied for the lowest unemployment rate in S.C.
S.C. union membership rate remains lowest in U.S.
South Carolina had approximately 47,000 union members in 2019, 2.2% of the people employed in the state, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is half a percentage point lower than in 2018, despite an increase in employment.
Bosch to lay off 430 workers in Dorchester County
Bosch plans to reduce its workforce by about 23% in the next year, cutting 340 permanent and 90 temporary jobs. The layoffs are to be implemented in phases, beginning midyear and continuing through 2021, according to a statement.

Recruiting underway for 2020 census workers
Challenged by low levels of unemployment nationally, the U.S. Census Bureau needs to fill 500,000 temporary, part-time positions, with South Carolina one of several states where there is a particular need. Training begins in March.
Charleston County administrator to retire
Jennifer Miller will retire Tuesday after 34 years of public service. Miller began her career as an intern in the Charleston County Human Resources Department in 1986 while pursuing a master’s degree in public administration.
Fireflies job fair set for Saturday
Columbia’s minor league baseball team will hold a job fair for 2020 seasonal positions from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Segra Park. Open positions include ushers, Facebook photographer, concession workers and ground crew staff.
S.C. unemployment drops to record 2.4% in November
The statewide unemployment rate continued its historic drop, falling from 2.6% in October. An estimated 2,324,510 people are working in South Carolina, an increase of 5,604 from October and 69,390 from November 2018.
