Colliers brokered the sale of a 200,000-square-foot industrial building at 1117 Sparkleberry Lane to U-Haul. Colliers’ Chuck Salley, Dave Mathews and Thomas Beard represented the seller in the transaction, which included 16.5 acres of land.

The former manufacturing site will be converted into a self-storage facility to serve the fast-growing northeast Columbia area. Amcor Inc. occupied the building before expanding its operations to a 650,000-square-foot facility in Blythewood.

“This site works extremely well being repurposed from an industrial site to a retail site,” Salley said. “Due to surrounding high traffic, it is difficult for industrial truck traffic to access the site. We think U-Haul’s adaptive re-use of the site is a great opportunity and is appropriate, considering the extensive number of retailers in the neighborhood.”

In other area transactions:

  • NAI Avant senior broker Paul Hartley represented S.C. Youth Advocate Program Inc. in an expansion and long-term lease for its corporate office, located in The Atrium office building at 140 Stoneridge Drive. Atrium Columbia LLC is the landlord. The private, nonprofit program provides foster care and community-based services and has served S.C. families since 1990.
  • Shop Grove Warehouses LLC has leased 199 Shop Grove Drive to Lexington-based telecommunications services provider Ansco & Associates. The lease of the 16,770-square foot modernized distribution space brings the Shop Grove warehouses to 100% capacity two months after the completion of the industrial park’s third and final building. NAI senior brokers Nick Stomski and Dick Stanland represented the landlord in the transaction.
