A Columbia restaurant and bar has won a coveted James Beard Award.

Lula Drake Wine Parlour on Main Street in downtown Columbia won the award in the Outstanding Wine and Other Beverages Program category.

Here’s a description of the category, according to a James Beard Foundation news release: “A restaurant that demonstrates exceptional care and skill in the pairing of wine and other beverages with food while contributing positively to its broader community.”

Tim Gardner is the owner of Lula Drake and head sommelier, according to its website. Gardner got into wine as a grad student at UCLA, according to the website. He later trained as a certified sommelier, and, after years of travel, received his diploma from the International Sommelier Guild.

Lula Drake was the only restaurant from South Carolina to win an award.
