Details

EdVenture will kick off National Fire Prevention Week a few days early by hosting “Tame the Flame” Saturday, Sept. 28.

The 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. event offers several learning opportunities throughout the day. Fire trucks will be on site as firefighters display the tools and equipment used to fight a fire. The day will end with a Home Fire Sprinkler Burn at 2 p.m. This demonstration will show how home fire sprinklers can quickly extinguish a fire.

Other activities include:
• Car seat installations and checks (11 a.m. – 1 p.m.)
• Forks-N-Flames – Interactive, family-style cooking demonstration with firefighters
• Home Safe Home – EdVenture’s 4-D theater experience teaches families the most common causes of home fires and how to be fire safe in their homes.
• Dalmatian Station – This simulated fire station has a fire truck, bunker coats, and fire hats for a realistic creative play area. Families can also plan and practice an escape from a home fire.
• Reading with Firefighters – Pop-up reading sessions
• Puppet Shows – Conducted by Marion City Fire Department
• Spark-to-Flame – Electricity demonstration conducted by Mid-Carolina Electrical Co-Op
• Firefighter Selfies – Photography opportunities with firefighters
• SLED Arson Demonstration – Canine “Maggie” will demonstrate her skills at detecting intentionally set fires with her handler.
