CHARLESTON COMMUNITY BAND CELEBRATES 40 YEARS WITH
Spanish Dreams
featuring Guest Performer
Antonio Marti, Principal Trumpet, Charleston Symphony Orchestra
Join us on Friday, October 19, 2018, 7:30 pm at the Rose Maree Myers Theater for the Performing Arts, Charleston School of the Arts, 5109 West Enterprise Street, North Charleston. The Charleston Community Band proudly celebrates our 40th year of presenting concert music in the Charleston area with a concert filled with vivid, evocative, passionate, and colorful Latin American music. With influences from Spain, Portugal, and French-speaking countries and territories, Latin American music has influenced jazz, rhythm and blues, and country music in America.
We are pleased to announce that the highlight of this concert is the US premiere performance of La Veude la Trompeta by Ferrer Ferran with trumpet soloist Antonio Marti, Principal Trumpet of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. Born in Valencia, Spain, Marti graduated with honors from the Mannes College of Music. He has been Principal Trumpet with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, La Laguna Chamber Orchestra, Wind Ensemble of Tenerife, and Orquesta Sinfonica de Tenerife, as well as first solo trumpet for the New York Chamber Orchestra.
La Veude la Trompeta (The Voice of the Trumpet) is a melodious piece for trumpet and Wind Band written by Ferrer Ferran and dedicated to the parents of his trumpet teacher Luis Andrés Faus. In the form of a Balada and Bolero, Ferran presents a melancholy and exciting melody by the trumpet while the Bolero, a melodic line with seductive rhythm, transforms the audience to an amazing paradise.
Additionally, the program includes: Amor de mi alma (You are the Love of My Soul) by Z. Randall Stroope; El Choclo by A.G. Villoldo; España Cañi by Pascual Marquina Narro; The Flashing Eyes of Andalusia by John Philip Sousa; and selections from Man of La Mancha by Mitch Leigh.
Admission is free; donations are happily accepted.
