Detours scheduled on I-85 for Gateway Project

Staff Report //February 8, 2018

Drivers will see detours on I-85 northbound and southbound in Greenville starting tonight, according to the S.C. Department of Transportation. Detours are needed to continue the construction of the new structures associated with the I-85/385 Gateway Project.

Both I-85 northbound and southbound will be detoured at the exit 51 ramp to their respective collector/distributor lanes for the erection of steel girders for one of the largest bridges on the Gateway Project, S.C. DOT said. Tonight, a pacing operation will take place on the I-85 north collector/distributor lanes. A pacing operation occurs when traffic is temporarily slowed, but not stopped, during heavy construction work.

The tentative schedule for these detours is Thursday, Saturday and Monday nights, weather permitting. Detours will begin at 10 p.m. and will be removed by 5 a.m. the following morning, according to S.C. DOT.
