Eagle Solar Group will invest $87.9 million a new solar farm in Orangeburg, site of several recent large-scale solar projects.

The company develops utility-scale solar farms in several U.S. regions with a focus on the Southeast and the Midwest. The new 75-megawatt project outside Bowman is designed to generate the equivalent electricity required to power approximately 15,000 homes and is expected to be completed by late 2020.

“We are excited to be part of the growing solar energy industry in this region, and we appreciate the welcoming and pro-business environment here in Orangeburg County and the state of South Carolina,” Eagle Solar Group managing director of origination Chris Kellar said in a news release.

Orangeburg is also home to a $115 million solar project by Cypress Creek Renewables, two Narenco solar farms and a pair of Tradewind Energy solar production facilities.

“Orangeburg County is pleased to continue to establish reliable, clean energy solutions for our residents,” Orangeburg County Council chairman Johnnie Wright Sr. said. “We are grateful for the investment of Eagle Solar Group in our county and certainly appreciate the opportunity to share in the benefits of clean, solar power.”
