Helping Out highlights some of the many charitable events and activities going on in the Charleston area. Submissions should be sent to [email protected].

The Duke Pitchforks, an all-male a cappella group, are scheduled to perform from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 3 at the Circular Congregational Church as a benefit for Charleston Halos. The group will be joined by the Plantation Singers, a local a cappella group.

Student and senior tickets are $20; regular tickets are $25.

Charleston County School District schools are participating in Reading Around the Bases, a joint initiative between the Charleston RiverDogs and the district.

Eighteen elementary schools throughout the county started a 12-week, baseball-themed incentive program on Monday. Each student will receive a Reading Challenge packet, which includes a scorecard, tracking sheet and personal baseball card. To move around on the bases on the scorecard, students can read 100 pages for a single, 200 pages for a double, 300 pages for a triple and 500 pages for a home run.

Dominion Energy is accepting applications for grants of up to $25,000 each, as part of a planned $1 million in environmental education and stewardship grants it will award through the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation.

K-12 schools can apply for grants up to $5,000 each. The recipients will be announced in April. Applications are available online.

The Lighthouse for the Blind Inc., a private, not-for-profit social enterprise that provides employment, support and training for people who are blind, deaf-blind and blind with other disabilities, is hosting Lighthouse Oyster Roast from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday at Summerville Country Club.

The event will include unlimited steamed oysters, a hot dog bar, beer and wine, music from Plane Jane and a silent auction.

Tickets are available at the door for $45.
