That Big Book Sale, slated for Oct. 9-11, has been postponed and tentatively rescheduled for May 27-30 because of COVID-19.

The Charleston Friends of the Library will instead hold pop-up book sales once a month through the rest of the year at locations throughout the Lowcountry. Proceeds will help fund library services, equipment, training, materials and programming.

Sales will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the first hour dedicated to senior shopping. Pop-ups will be at the Baxter-Patrick James Island Library on Sept. 12, Wando Mount Pleasant Library on Oct. 10, Bees Ferry West Ashley Library on Nov. 14, and Mount Pleasant Regional Library on Dec. 12. Books, DVDS and CDs will be available for sale with prices starting at $1 for paperbacks and $4 for hardback books.

Safety protocols include masked volunteers, sanitized shopping baskets, one-direction lanes, social distancing and adherence to occupancy levels. Attendees must wear masks.


The 17th annual Care Give Run 5K Partial Trail Run and Family Fun Walk will take place virtually this year. Proceeds will go toward Carolina Children’s Charity.

The race will take place Sept. 24-30. Participants can choose their race course and start time to be completed between the designated dates.

Registration closes at 5 p.m. Sept. 22. All participants who register by Sunday will receive a $5 gift card to The Kickin’ Chicken. The top eight finishers will also receive a prize package valued at more than $75.
