Initial employment claims filed in S.C. dropped by 218 for the week ending Oct. 10 from the previous week.

The 4,884 claims were down from 5,102, representing the second straight week of claim decreases as reported by the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce.

Richland County saw a state-high 491 claims filed for the most recent week, while Greenville County had 471. Horry County saw 343 claims, Charleston County 327 and Lexington County 268.

A total of 759,693 claims have been filed since March 15, according to DEW, with combined state and federal benefit payouts totaling more than $4.38 billion.

That includes $243.6 million paid to 214,075 claimants in Lost Wages Assistance program benefits. South Carolina was approved for the program, which provides an additional $300 for claimants who receive at least $100 in state or federal benefits, last month.
