Southwest Airlines is adding flights from Charleston to Atlanta and Kansas City, Mo., in 2020.

Currently, Delta Air Lines Inc. is the only airline with direct flights from Charleston to Atlanta. No airline offers direct flights from Charleston to Kansas City.

Southwest’s new flights will begin June 7. Flights to Atlanta will operate daily, and service to Kansas City will run on Saturdays.

“We are also pleased that Southwest, one of our longtime air carriers, continue to thrive and are adding additional flights to cities that are already popular with our customers, as well as adding more destinations for Charleston and the Lowcountry to enjoy,” Paul Campbell Jr., airport executive director and CEO, said in a news release.

Southwest began service to Charleston International Airport in 2011. With the additional flights beginning in June, Southwest will operate 10 flights daily, 14 flights on Saturday and 16 flights on Sunday.

“We are thrilled they are adding two important destinations to their Charleston route map,” said Helen Hill, aviation authority board chair and CEO of the Charleston Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. “This further elevates the quality of life for residents and the quality of place for visitors.”
