Silver Airways to relaunch service in Charleston

Silver Airways is returning service to Charleston this spring, offering nonstop flights to three Florida cities.

The airline will offer daily flights to Orlando, with continuing service to Key West; flights to Fort Lauderdale four times a week; and flights to Tampa three times a week.

Charleston will be the only South Carolina city served by Silver Airways when service launches May 21.

Silver Airways previously had nonstop flights from Charleston to Orlando and Tampa, which began in 2015. Just months after Silver Airways launched its Florida service, JetBlue introduced daily service to Fort Lauderdale.

Misty Stoller, spokeswoman for Silver Airways, said in an email the company “has undergone a complete transformation over the past couple years,” including introducing new aircraft to its fleet that are designed for the type of route lengths served by these new flights.

Stoller did not answer why Silver Airways had previously ended its service in Charleston.

Silver Airways will operate its Charleston service with an ATR 72-600 aircraft, designed for shorter haul markets. The ATR 72-600 has up to 78 seats, depending on the layout of the aircraft, and has a range of 825 nautical miles.

The airline is offering fares starting at $69 until March 18 for travel dates through September.

Helen Hill, CEO of Explore Charleston and chairman of the Charleston County Aviation Authority board, said in a statement that the return of Silver Airways is evidence of the Charleston region’s economic strength.

“Establishing these new and expanded routes is a win-win for Floridians and Charleston area residents alike,” Hill said.
