Background screening provider General Information Services, Inc., is investing more than $2.7 million in a new Midlands facility to complement its corporate Lexington headquarters.
The expansion is expected to generate 91 jobs over the next five years, the S.C. Commerce Department said. The company is leasing 18,000 square-feet of office space at 1001 Pinnacle Point Drive in Northeast Columbia for its newest operations.
“General Information Services has been a prominent business headquartered in Central South Carolina for decades, and we are excited about their expansion,” said Mike Brenan, chairman of the Central SC Alliance. “This growth attests to the pro-business atmosphere and dedicated leadership in South Carolina.”
CEO Raymond Conrad said location will allow GIS to hire professionals living in the Northeast Columbia area around Interstate 20 and Interstate 77, he said.
“We are very excited about and proud of the new location at Pinnacle Point,” CFO Sharon Mann said. “Partnering with the Department of Commerce and Richland County made this a very smooth process, along with the work done by NAI Avant, 1X1 Design and Hood Construction to get the space renovated and up-fitted for occupation.”
The Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved a $50,000 grant to Richland County to assist with the costs of real property improvements related to the project.
“While much of South Carolina’s recent economic success can be attributed to the growth of our manufacturing industry,” Commerce Secretary Bobby Hitt said, “announcements like today’s by GIS prove that the Palmetto State boasts a diverse economy and the right ingredients for businesses of all types to succeed.”
GIS has a workforce of more than 1,000 people and also has locations in Dallas and nationwide sales offices. Its latest expansion will help meet increased customer demand, it said.
