Central Carolina Community Foundation is partnering with the Columbia Fireflies to house the headquarters for Midlands Gives, a 24-hour online fundraiser for nonprofits, at Spirit Communications Park.

The ballpark, scheduled to be ready for the April 14 home opener of Columbia’s new minor league baseball team, is located on the former state hospital campus that's being developed into a mixed-used community of residential units, office space and retail storefronts called BullStreet Commons.

“The community and all participating nonprofits are invited to join us at the new ballpark on May 3 for a day-long rally of giving,” said JoAnn Turnquist, president and CEO of Central Carolina. “We are certain that this ‘luminous’ new headquarters will only serve to supercharge the electrifying momentum of community generosity that builds during Midlands Gives.”

Midlands Gives raised $1.5 million in 2015 for more than 250 nonprofits in 11 counties, nearly double the amount raised in event’s first year in 2014.

This year 14 local businesses will provide more than $95,000 in prize incentives representing a 200% increase in incentives offered in 2015, the charity said.  The prizes will be available to nonprofits via random giveaways, challenge matching funds, events at headquarters and giver-generated milestones like power hours. In addition, the foundation’s affiliate endowments in Orangeburg and Calhoun, Chapin, Kershaw and Sumter counties will offer $20,000 in bonus pools for nonprofits in their communities.

The event is open to any 501 (c)(3) nonprofit in good standing with the IRS, with a local office in one of the 11 Midlands counties the foundation serves, is eligible to participate. Nonprofits seeking to participate can register through Feb. 29 by clicking here.

Businesses interested in joining Midlands Gives and sponsoring a prize should contact the foundation’s donor relations manager, Ebony Perkins, at or 803.978.7816.
