Sage Automotive Interiors is investing $4 million in its two Abbeville County plants. The company with headquarters at the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research is investing in equipment and technology upgrades to position the Abbeville County operations for future growth, a statement said.

Sage provides automotive interior surfaces, seating, door panels and headliners for original equipment manufacturers.

Sidney Locke, a company spokesman, declined to discuss the prospect of jobs being added at the two plants. The phased expansion is expected to start later this year.

Sage Automotive, which acquired the automotive body cloth division of Milliken & Co. in 2009, also has plants in Greenville and Spartanburg counties. The company employs about 900 people in South Carolina.

Sage President and CEO Dirk Pieper said that as the company faces “global competition on cost and performance, we continue to invest in our core strengths in South Carolina to support our future growth.”
