S.C. Automotive Summit to feature autonomous vehicles and global trends

The seventh annual S.C. Automotive Summit, set to take place Feb. 28 through March 2 at the Hyatt Regency in Greenville, will include presentations on autonomous vehicles, regional industry highlights and global trends, and keynote addresses from Knudt Flor, president and CEO of BMW Manufacturing Co.; and S.C. Commerce Secretary Bobby Hitt.

Gary Silberg, partner and national automotive sector leader for KPMG, will look at the future of mobility. This year’s summit also includes representatives of the Belgian automotive and technology industries. Summit participants will hear news on NAFTA and will have an opportunity to discuss the changing role of supply chains and factories of the future, according to a news release.

The automotive sector has an annual economic impact in the state of more than $27 billion, according to the S.C. Department of Commerce, which reports 158,000 people in the state are employed in the automotive sector. The state is No. 1 in export sales of tires and completed passenger vehicles.

The automotive summit is hosted by the S.C. Automotive Council and S.C. Manufacturers Alliance.
