BMW is gearing up to produce the next edition of its X4 model, even as it celebrates putting 200,000 of the first edition on highways around the world.

The first generation of the BMW X4 has been produced in Spartanburg County since 2014. The 200,000th vehicle was finished in Alpine white metallic paint and is bound for a customer in Asia, according to a news release from BMW.

The tally sheet for the first generation X4 won’t grow much. Production ends in March when assembly of the next generation begins for the vehicle.

BMW touts the X4 as the first in a new category of vehicle: the mid-range sports activity coupé for the premium segment.

The second generation X4 “boasts a marked increase in agility combined with a high degree of ride comfort, courtesy of chassis technology that has been systematically refined and honed for the specific requirements of the sports activity coupe,” the automaker said the release.
