World Acceptance Corp. will gift $5,000 toward tech scholarships at the Carolina Code School in Greenville.

The scholarship will be available for accepted students enrolling in the school’s full-time, 12-week web development course this summer.

CEO Chad Prashad said the company is committed to “removing barriers for people who are working to better themselves and their communities,” according to a news release. Finalists will interview with the technical team at World Acceptance as part of the selection process. Applications for the course were due April 16.

“We believe in supporting local educational institutions like Carolina Code School, which offers a much-needed pathway to employment in technology for students from all backgrounds,” Prashad said in the release.

The course begins May 3 and will be held at the school’s campus inside the Next Innovation Center, 411 University Ridge in Greenville.

“By investing in our local talent ecosystem, World Acceptance Corp. is helping us strengthen our local tech workforce,” Logan Cunningham, Carolina Code School program director, said in the release. “We are grateful to the team at World for this scholarship donation that will help open opportunities for a deserving future developer.”

Founded in 1962, Greenville-based World Acceptance Corp. provides personal installment loan solutions and personal tax preparation services to more than 1 million customers a year out of 1,200 World Finance branches. World Finance primarily serves customers without ready access to credit, according to the release, and helped 225,000 customers boost their credit scores from subprime and deep subprime levels.

Part of the $217.8 million consumer loan company’s mission is to “do good for our community.”
