The Southern Bank has acquired property for a new branch at 108 Barnwell Ave NW in Aiken.

This will be the third South Carolina branch for the Spartanburg-based bank, which already has one in Greenville and is building another in Spartanburg, according to a news release. The bank moved its headquarters from Sardis, Ga., to Spartanburg last year, according to a company spokesman.

“I am proud to expand The Southern Bank’s footprint in my hometown,” said Frank Townsend, chief lending officer at The Southern Bank. “As we continue growing the bank in South Carolina, we want to provide our customers with another convenient location to conduct their banking needs. Our team is dedicated to providing exceptional customer service, and we look forward to building lasting relations with the residents and businesses in Aiken.”

The 3,400-square-foot structure is located in downtown Aiken on a corner lot within walking distance to Aiken’s retail, restaurant, and entertainment district. The location will include parking and a drive-thru. The Southern Bank will renovate the space to create offices, meeting spaces, a safekeeping room with deposit boxes, and a new facade for the building’s exterior.

The bank plans to begin renovations on the Aiken property in April and open the doors by the end of 2023. The Southern Bank in Greenville is fully operational and open to customers, and the new Spartanburg branch under construction should open in the summer.

The Southern Bank currently operates branches in South Carolina and four cities in Georgia.
