Greenville Water CEO David H. Bereskin is retiring after 12 years at the utility.

Bereskin’s last day will be March 3, according to a Greenville Water news release.

During Bereskin’s tenure, he ensured that Greenville Water’s primary focus was on the interests of the customer, providing the best possible quality water at affordable prices in a sustainable fashion, the release stated. In times of unprecedented inflation, Greenville Water has been able to keep rates at the same pricing for six years while maintaining its AAA rating with all three bonding agencies and providing drinking water of incomparable quality.

“As I complete my twelfth year as CEO, and after more than 40 years in the water industry, I believe that now is the right time for the Commission to begin a search for my successor,” said Bereskin in the release. “Quality water for a sustainable future remains Greenville Water’s mission and, in the days ahead, I will remain fully focused on the disciplined execution of my commitment to our customers, team members, and community in achieving this mission. I am honored to have served the Greenville Water community and wish to thank the many team members who supported and assisted me over the last 12 years.”

Bereskin oversaw the development of a state-of-the-art, interactive modeling system designed to better understand the hydrology of the watersheds, the impact of weather forecast, and the management of Greenville Water’s reservoirs, the release stated.  He also conceived and oversaw first-class capital programs to better serve customers, including a sustained program to replace hundreds of miles of galvanized pipes. Under Bereskin’s leadership, Greenville Water entered true partnerships with its neighboring utilities in Laurens, Powdersville and Anderson, according to the release.

“David has successfully steered Greenville Water through several challenges, notably the COVID-19 pandemic and a cyberattack,” said Phillip Kilgore, chairman of the Commission of Public Works, in the release. “He also has led us through a period of unprecedented growth and improvement in our system. David will be leaving Greenville Water in the best financial and operational condition in our storied history. His twelve years of commitment to Greenville Water and his many achievements will not be forgotten.”
