Unemployment rate in South Carolina remained steady in February

South Carolina’s unemployment rate remained unchanged in February at 3.2%, according to data released March 24 from the S.C. Department of Revenue and Workforce.

During February, the number of people statewide working increased to 2,306,083, an increase of 7,303 people from January and 10,022 more than the February 2022 estimate, according to the DEW report.

Nationally, the unemployment rate increased from January’s rate of 3.4% to 3.6% according to the Current Population Survey.

The state’s estimated labor force, which includes people working plus those looking for work, increased to 2,382173, an increase of 7,347 people over the January estimate and an increase of 8,879 people from February 2022.

Industries that reported gains were leisure and hospitality, professional and business services and government. Declines were seen in financial activities, education and health services, construction, manufacturing, other services and information industries. Trade, transportation and utilities saw no change, according to the report.
