Oconee County officials said they have been informed by Michelin that the company intends to let its purchase option agreement on a proposed distribution center in Fair Play expire.

Since August 2014, Michelin has had the Golden Corner Commerce Park under option for the purposes of building a multimillion dollar distribution center off S.C. Highway 59.

“We are disappointed as a lot of effort was put into this economic development opportunity,” Scott Moulder, county administrator for Oconee County, said in a statement, “but we won’t pout and sit on our hands. We will immediately continue our efforts to position the Golden Corner Commerce Park for future economic development success and continue the momentum that Oconee is experiencing.”

“While we are disappointed Michelin has chosen not to make a decision at this time, Oconee County will continue to market this park as an ideal location along the I-85 corridor,” said Paul Cain, chairman of Oconee County Council. “I am confident that Golden Corner Commerce Park will attract investment and jobs to Oconee County and provide a positive return to the taxpayers.”
