A $500,000 grant from the S.C. Department of Commerce and the Appalachian Regional Commission will be used by the Greer Commission of Public Works to expand sewer infrastructure to a planned mixed-use development near I-85 and Brockman McClimon Road.

The extension, known as the Bent Creek Sewer Extension, will also provide service to additional proposed mixed-use developments at the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport, according to Greer CPW.

Grant money will be combined with Greer CPW fee reserves to construct 6.600 feet of underground gravity pipe that will tie into pipe near Highway 14 and extend near the planned Global Commerce Park in Spartanburg County. Sewer line construction is expected to begin in June 2018.

The proposed Global Commerce Park plans include industrial distribution and light manufacturing as well as 85,000 square feet of mixed-use buildings.

“The new 70-acre Global Commerce Park near I-85 will serve as another gateway to bring more businesses to Greer,” said Mark Harvey, Greer CPW planning and engineering manager, in a news release. “We are happy to help with the future economic growth expected from this expansion.”
