The Spartanburg Housing Authority will move its central offices from 2271 S. Pine St. to Star Mill, currently under renovation in the Northside Community at 170 Arch St.

The move will enable the agency to better serve its clients by decreasing some of the challenges and transportation barriers some clients face, according to a news release. The housing authority has been located at its Pine Street headquarters since January 2016. The new location is closer to bus lines.

BF Holdings LLC, who recently completed the Montgomery Building renovation, has hired SHLTR Architects and Roebuck Buildings to complete the design-build construction project. Construction is slated to begin this week, the news release said. The two-story brick structure will be upfitted and fully restored while maintaining the building’s unique architectural features.

The building is 12,000 square feet, two floors, and will have an open floor plan. The project will cost an estimated $3 million and will be funded in part through South Carolina mill tax credits, state historic tax credits, and possibly new market tax credits, according to the release.
