Upstate manufacturer expands HQ

Symrise Pet Food will expand its North American headquarters with a new facility in Greenwood County. The company says the project will create a 65 jobs through a $65.5 million investment.

“This expansion is a key step for Symrise Pet Food’s North American business,” Tim Lonc, general manager of Symrise Pet Food, said in a news release. “We appreciate the support we have received making our project a reality in Hodges and look forward to continuing our partnership within Greenwood County. As the pet food industry keeps growing, we are committed to supporting our customers' needs and are always looking for ways to reach out for new opportunities.”

Symrise Pet Food, a subsidiary of global fragrance, food and cosmetic manufacturers Symrise Group, has 1,500 employees in 31 sites around the world, according to the release. The German-based group also has a cosmetics plant in Goose Creek.

Pet food manufacturers partner with Symrise Pet Food to produce the brands Pet Food Palatability with SPF, Pet Nutrition with Nutrios and Pet Food Protection with Videka. 

Located at 5300 Highway 25 North in Hodges, the facility serves as the company’s North American headquarters. The facility will allow the company to meet increased demand and grow its powder palatant product lines. The project is expected to be complete in 2025. 

“Symrise has continually invested in Greenwood County and our citizens since they opened their operations 15 years ago,” Greenwood County Council Vice Chairman Theo Lane said in the release. “Their decision to further invest is not only a strong vote of confidence in our talented workforce, but also a testament to our collaborative relationship that helped secure this significant expansion. These 65 new jobs support our vision of the development of our Highway 25 North industrial corridor and will have a lasting impact on our community. We appreciate their continued belief in Greenwood County as a great place to work and live.”

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits related to this project.

Lightsey III said in the release. “It’s particularly exciting to announce the growth of one of our existing companies, and we look forward to what the future holds for Symrise Pet Food in Greenwood County and across South Carolina.”
