Margaret “Markie” Gaddis, a local artist and costumer designer, is the Richland Library’s new artist-in-residence.

Gaddis, who begins her residency today, is an S.C. native who specializes in costume details such as sculpting armor and using LED lights to replicate pieces featured in movies and anime, according to a news release from the library.

Gaddis will have weekly office hours from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the library’s main branch at 1431 Assembly St. She will also coordinate with the library’s arts librarian to offer free programs, including costume creation and working with three-dimensional materials.

Her residency ends Dec. 20.

Richland Library’s artist-in-residence program, developed in September 2016, aims to connect the community with local working artists and to provide creative and educational opportunities.
