Staff Report //January 9, 2020//
Columbia College dance professor Martha Brim has been named the new Richland Library artist-in-residence.
Over the next four months, Brim will share her talent and knowledge with library patrons while working with the arts librarian on a series of free community programs for people of all ages. As artist-in-residence, Brim will hold weekly office hours at the main library location at 1431 Assembly St. in downtown Columbia.
Brim has been a dance professor at Columbia College for nearly 35 years and has experience as a dance professional, choreographer and educator, according to a news release from the library. In 2000, Brim founded The Power Company Collaborative, working with musicians, designers and artists to co-create large-scale performance installations.
While at the library, Brim plans to work on a community performance installation that will combine movement, textiles, collage and printmaking.
Brim’s term as artist-in-residence begins Jan. 13 and runs through mid-May 2020.
Richland Library launched its artist-in-residence program in 2016 to connect the community with local working artists and provide creative and educational opportunities that support cultural and artistic interaction.
