Joint Base Charleston's Family Day event today brought out the military families and the military plane families. We went to check it all out today; you can check it out Saturday at the Joint Base Charleston Air and Space Expo.
The gates open at 8:30 a.m. and the opening ceremonies are at 10:30 a.m. Static displays of scores of aircraft will be available for viewing — and for some, exploring — all day. The last aerial show, the Aeroshell T-6 Texan formation flight performance, is set for 3 p.m. (The Thunderbirds are not yet returning to air shows after the April 4 crash of an F-16 during training in Nevada killed Maj. Stephen Del Bagno, one of the Thunderbirds pilots).
The event and parking are free. Check out the slideshow above to see what will be there.
