Kalmar, a company with cargo handling services and equipment for ports, distribution centers and heavy industry, recently broke ground on an industrial building in North Charleston, the company said in a news release.

The 15,000-square-foot Customer Experience Center will have a showroom, training facility, demonstration area and customer service area for Kalmar’s North American mobile equipment business, including counterbalance and container-handling products.

The metal warehouse will include more than 2,000 square feet of office space and 70,000 square feet of a concrete yard where customers can test-drive and train on Kalmar’s equipment.

The Class A building will be built in Cross County Commerce Park with developer Landmark Enterprises. It is scheduled to open early next year.

“The Kalmar sales team is eager to open this facility in the critical Charleston market,” said  Steve Cianci, vice president of mobile equipment solution sales. “Once complete, we will have equipment staged for quick delivery, room to showcase new equipment and demonstrate our products for our dealers and end users alike. We'll also have the ability to offer safety, operator and technical training on all our products as our training facilities will double in size.”

Kalmar is part of Cargotec, a Finland-based company with more than 11,000 employees worldwide.
