As Hire Dynamics gears up for a nationwide drive-thru and walk-up hiring event, Upstate Regional Manager Laura Moody notes that all of the area’s major auto and textiles manufacturers are seeking talent.

While smaller companies have been struggling, as evidenced by a drop-off in order requests, large distribution centers and logistics companies are also experiencing a boom in workforce needs, she said. Local contact centers and administrative-type offices are hiring to a smaller extent.

“Our manufacturing is blowing up, warehouses and distribution — they’re really going all out, and that’s all over,” Moody said. Between Greenville and Spartanburg offices, Hire Dynamics is searching to fill up to 300 positions at the event, dubbed “Hire Palooza,” on Oct. 6 and Oct. 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The influx of applicants has picked up somewhat since some unemployment benefits were cut in late July, but the increase was slight.

“We really have worked really hard to go out and drive applicants in. We have a lot of recruitment efforts and put a lot of money into our recruiting,” Moody said, adding that it often takes time to fill orders with eligible talent and current conditions have made that wait even longer.

Recently, many of her clients have boosted wages to attract “better quality” employees with a greater toolkit of skills to bring to the table. Entry level pay used to start at $10 and $11 per hour and has now inched up to the $12 and $13 range.

“If they (employers) want a little higher skill set, they have to go up to $14, $15, $16,” she said.

The company will field both walk-in, drive-up and reserved appointments at all of its Upstate locations in Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson and Gaffney during the two-day event.

The event piggy-backs on the success of the company’s other drive-thru job fairs hosted during the pandemic to meet clients’ extensive workforce needs while also aligning to social distancing measures.
