Spartanburg Methodist names former Wofford dean as president

A former senior executive with Performance Solutions by Milliken has been tapped to be the next president of Spartanburg Methodist College.

W. Scott Cochran was picked as the eighth president of the college this week. Phinnize J. Fisher, chairwoman of the college’s board of trustees called Cochran “the perfect critical thinker and visionary leader.”

“We have a proud legacy at Spartanburg Methodist College of encouraging students to dream big dreams and we will provide the foundation for students to have those opportunities,” Fisher said, in a statement. “We, the students, faculty, staff and board of trustees are excited to give without reservation the eighth presidential reins to Scott.”

Cochran graduated from Wofford College in Spartanburg and earned a Master of Business Administration from Duke University. He has 20 years of experience in business with roles as a senior executive in the United States and internationally at companies such as GMAC, UPS Capital and most recently Performance Solutions by Milliken, a division of Milliken & Co.

“I am incredibly humbled and honored to serve Spartanburg Methodist College as its eighth president. I look forward to working with an extremely talented group of faculty and staff to create an atmosphere where ideas flourish, students are inspired to dream and everyone achieves more together,” Cochran said, in a statement.

Cochran was dean of The Space — an incubator that houses programs such as entrepreneurship, social entrepreneurship, consulting and leadership — at Wofford College for seven years. He is a Liberty Fellow and has taught finance courses at Wofford.
