STEM Premier, a Mount Pleasant-based online platform focused on connecting students and workers with jobs, has garnered a $9 million strategic investment from K12 Inc., an online curriculum provider.

The STEM platform is an online recruiting tool. It allows students to create “talent profiles” for their career paths and to highlight their skills. Educators can use it to recruit students to their schools, and employers can use it to find future workers. STEM Premier has more than 370,000 talent profiles from more than 19,000 schools across the country, the release said.

STEM Premier’s platform will be incorporated into K12’s nationwide Career Technical Education programs, according to a news release. The partnership will help match students with careers in health care, IT, construction and manufacturing.

“Attracting the investment of a national leader in educational technology will provide us the opportunity to accelerate both of our companies’ missions,” STEM Premier CEO Casey Welch said in the release.

STEM Premier was founded in 2012 and employs more than 15 people. The company participated in SCRA’s SC Launch program.

“The resources in South Carolina have been critical to our growth,” Welch said. “We have been honored to partner with many organizations in the state to address the workforce challenge.”
