Members of the Greenville community can learn how municipal budgets are created and managed during a Community Budget Teach-in Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Triune Mercy Center in Greenville.

The event will focus on Greenlink transit funding as an example of how advocacy in the budget process can make an impact, according to a news release. It is being sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Greenville County and the Women’s Rights and Empowerment Network, also known as WREN.

"Our democracy is strongest when we all have the knowledge and the confidence to participate. The Greenville League is excited to co-sponsor this event with WREN, which will further this mission by helping members of our Greenville community understand better how their tax dollars are spent and how to make their civic voices heard," Lawson Wetli, with the League of Women Voters of Greenville County, said in the release.

This Community Budget Teach-in is the first for the Greenville Civic Project, a series of events designed to “demystify the inner-workings of local government and encourage action,” according to the release.

Registration is available online.
