The Medical University of South Carolina board of trustees voted Friday to hold in-state tuition rates for the upcoming fiscal year at the same levels as this year while raising out-of-state tuition for certain programs.
MUSC said in a news release that the tuition freeze was an effort to temper costs for students and families. The hold on in-state tuition rates applies to all six MUSC colleges.

The board also approved a 13% in-state tuition decrease and 14% out-of-state tuition decrease for the first year Flex curriculum, as well as a 23% in-state decrease and 24% out-of-state decrease for the second year Flex curriculum.
The board approved the tuition changes unanimously, though trustees Dr. C. Guy Castles III and Dr. Donald R. Johnson II were absent from Friday’s meeting.
