Three high school seniors at Daniel Morgan Technology Center in Spartanburg signed letters of intent on Wednesday, not for a college sport but for a job offer, apprenticeship or advanced technical training.

Daniel Morgan Technology Center participated in SkillsUSA National Signing Day sponsored by Klein Tools. Daniel Morgan Technology Center was one of approximately 300 schools in the United States participating in National Signing Day, which recognized more than 2,500 students nationwide, according to a news release.

“This was an exciting day for our students as they committed to careers in the skilled trades,” Robert Sparks, SkillsUSA adviser at Daniel Morgan Technology Center, said in the release. “These seniors have worked hard over the years to prepare for this next chapter of their life. Through their education at Daniel Morgan Technology Center our seniors understand the hard work needed to be successful in the trades. This recognition is very well deserved to each and every one of them.”

School administrators, teachers, SkillsUSA advisers, family and friends were present Wednesday as the students took the next step in their education in residential wiring, building trades, renovations, HVAC or plumbing. The students also received a Klein Tools Signing Kit, which included a hat, T-shirt, and a pair of Klein Tools pliers.

“We are thrilled we were able to partner with SkillsUSA and Klein Tools for the first-ever National Signing Day,” Chris Dinkins, director of Daniel Morgan Technology Center, said in the release. “As the shortage of skilled workers worsens, we at Daniel Morgan Technology Center encourage students to enter this rewarding industry upon graduation. Our seniors should be very proud of everything they have accomplished at Daniel Morgan Technology Center as they continue to further their education and training post-graduation. We wish them all the best as they prepare for their lifelong careers.”

Daniel Morgan Technology Center offers skilled trades programs in automotive technology, carpentry, electricity, graphic communications, machine tool technology, mechatronics and welding.
