Wind and solar project development company Tradewind Energy is launching an $89 million solar production facility in Orangeburg County.

The 75-megawatt Bowman Solar Project will complement an existing $85 million solar facility the company announced in February 2017 and is projected to come online by 2020. It will generate electricity equivalent to that needed to power 15,000 homes.

“We are thrilled to partner with Orangeburg County to continue the growth of solar energy,” Tradewind Energy senior development manager Justin McGeeney said in a news release. “The community has been very welcoming to solar energy, and we appreciate all the work of Orangeburg County and the state of South Carolina for helping create new opportunities for economic development through the Bowman Solar Project.”
