A Richland County engineer will be featured in a national scientific journal for his work for the county’s transportation department.
Mohammed Al-Tofan, a pre-construction engineering manager for the department, co-authored a scientific paper on detecting blockages in utility pipelines. The paper will be published in March in the American Society of Civil Engineering’s Journal of Hydraulic Engineering.
Al-Tofan completed the paper, titled “Use of Lower Harmonics of Pressure Oscillations for Blockage Detection in Liquid Pipelines,” before he joined Richland County in 2018, according to a news release.
An abstract of the paper can be viewed here (.pdf).
