The number jobs in South Carolina advertised online fell by 200 positions between January and December, according to The Conference Board Help Wanted OnLine Data Series.

At the end of January, online help wanted ads for South Carolina totaled 68,200, the board reported. However, the total of ads posted last month was up 6.2% from 64,200 in January 2015.

The Palmetto State’s neighbors, Georgia and North Carolina, grew by 1,800 and 700 positions respectively.

The board also calculated that there were 1.8 unemployed persons for every job opening in South Carolina.

Nationally the number of help wanted ads in January rose 13,500 to 5,496,500.

“January showed a disappointing start for 2016,” said Gad Levanon, managing director of Macroeconomic and Labor Market Research at The Conference Board. “Labor demand levels remain very high but growth has continued to be slow since 2013.”
