City of Columbia parking tickets issued between Aug. 7 and Aug. 21 can be paid with a donation of school supplies.

Columbia City Council unanimously approved the measure, according to a news release. School supplies collected by the city will be donated to S.C. youth organization and job development program Ynotu2 and delivered to families and children across the Midlands.

Only non-public safety citations may be satisfied through the initiative. Traffic and moving violations including handicapped parking violations, double parking and parking in loading zones are excluded.

Donators can bring new, unwrapped school supplies of equal or greater value to their parking ticket fines to the city’s parking services office at 820 Washington St. from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Supplies being accepted include pencils, pens, loose-leaf notebook paper, notebooks, index cards and rulers.
