SCBIO hosts forum with elected officials and state epidemiologist

Lt. Gov. Pamela EvetteSCBio will open discussion on South Carolina’s recovery during the COVID-19 pandemic with “Voices of Leadership: Charting South Carolina’s Path Forward,” a virtual public forum on July 9 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, state epidemiologist Dr. Linda Bell, S.C. Rep. Murrell Smith and S.C. Sen. Thomas Alexander will serve on a panel moderated by Sam Konduros, CEO of SCBio.

Topics will include data highlighting South Carolina’s current and future status in terms of the virus, an outlook on the state’s economy, maximizing new economic development opportunities, according to a news release.

“Our goal is to bring the diverse viewpoints of these top officials in our state’s government and health arenas to speak to industry, education and the life sciences community.  This forum will assess where we are, and how we can make a difference for our state to reduce COVID-19’s impact in the weeks to come,” Konduros said in the release.

The event is free, but space may be limited.

Mayors discuss COVID-19 Response at SCBIZNews Power Event

Four mayors from across the Lowcountry will talk about the impacts of civil unrest and the COVID-19 pandemic on their municipalities. They also will give updates on the transportation and development picture on July 30 from noon to 1 p.m. at “Mayors Forum: Regional Response and Recovery,” the latest installment in Charleston Regional Business Journal’s 2020 Power Events series.

The livestream broadcast, hosted on Charleston Regional Business Journal’s YouTube channel, will be paneled by Mayor John Tecklenburg of Charleston, Mayor Greg Habib of Goose Creek, Mayor Will Haynie of Mount Pleasant and Mayor Keith Summey of North Charleston. Other topics will include affordable housing, education and developing the Lowcountry talent pipeline.

Proceeds from the event’s $15 registration fee will be donated to the Lowcountry Food Bank.
