LMC Foundation giving more than $1.1M to promote health

The Lexington Medical Center Foundation is giving more than $1.1 million this year to Midlands groups that promote community health.

“We like to extend our impact outside our doors and we’re glad to be able to do that,” Tod Augsburger, president and CEO of Lexington Medical Center, said in a news release.

The 17 groups receiving funding include:

• Carolina Hearing Aid Bank
• Center for Colon Cancer Research
• Dickerson Children’s Advocacy Center
• Eau Claire Cooperative Health Center
• The Free Medical Clinic
• Good Samaritan Clinic
• Harvest Hope Food Bank
• MedMission
• MedNeed
• Midlands Housing Alliance
• Nancy K. Perry Children’s Shelter
• PASOS
• Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands
• Sistercare
• United Way Dental and Vision Clinic
• Welvista

LMC is presenting Free Medical Clinic at 1875 Harden St. with a grant today.

Representatives from the Lexington Medical Center Foundation and the hospital’s Community Outreach Committee board will continue to visit the organizations to deliver the funding.

“We choose agencies that serve local community needs, increase health care access for underserved populations, educate community members about health problems, collaborate with other health care organizations and provide medical services,” said Barbara Willm, vice president of community relations and development at Lexington Medical Center.

Each organization must submit a report about the impact of the services provided with the awarded money.
